NetTools is an application with a collection of network tools. It will do DNS lookup aka nslookup, ping and traceroute across any type of connection (WiFi, 3G and EDGE).
These 3 tools are the primary tools that a network administrator needs. But they are also used by gamers to see where the bottleneck is between them and the gaming server (traceroute), or measuring latency to the game server (ping).
For information on how to use the tools, please visit the NetTools homepage.
Ping functionality shows you the latency / roundtrip time for data between your iPhone and any server you can reach using ICMP ping.
Traceroute shows you what routers and servers your traffic passes through on the way to the destination. All these point might cause latency, direct data in the wrong direction, or drop it. It is normally used to pinpoint network bottlenecks.
This is the first implementation of traceroute on the iPhone that does reverse-DNS lookup, and shows you the names of the hosts that passes your traffic along. At the time of writing, it is also the only traceroute application that works across hosts that does not reply within the time limit (like over EDGE)
